Yesterday Mia got her first haircut! I really wanted her to grow it long, but she still won't tolerate any clips or bands in her hair and it was hanging over her eyes. She did a very good job sitting still in the big chair.
Here she is modeling her new 'do!

Happy Birthday Ian! (Part 2)
On Tuesday, Ian stayed home from school to have a special day of birthday activities with Mommy & Daddy. He opened his presents right after breakfast, then did a few practice turns around the cul-de-sac on his new bike.
Then we headed out for a round of mini-golf at the Perils of the Lost Jungle. Ian even got a hole in 1!
After golf we went to the movie theater for lunch and Monsters University. We had some extra time before the movie so Ian played with the electronic games in the courtyard.
After the movie we decided to hit the pool to beat the heat. Ian is becoming a really good swimmer, and he can't wait to show off his skills in Aunt Janet's pool in a few weeks.
After the pool we picked up Mia from school and headed to Red Robin for dinner and milkshakes for dessert. Ian finished the day with a few more practice rounds on his bike. It was pretty great for his first day as a 4-year-old!

Happy Birthday Ian! (part 1)
Sunday evening was Ian's big birthday party. He invited 20 of his friends to an indoor playground for jumping, climbing, pizza, and cake.
Jumping on the trampoline
Mia likes to jump too!
Up the big slide ...
... and down again!
Mia liked the ball pit the best.
Pizza time!
Somebody was hungry.
Singing happy birthday
Middletown Carnival
Saturday evening we went to the town carnival in Middletown. Mia wasn't tall enough for any of the rides, and we weren't sure if Ian would like them, but he did great!
Picking ducks in the duck pond. A carnival must!
Ian says the monkey "fun house" was his favorite.
I think the bumper cars were the biggest hit.
No carnival would be complete without cotton candy!

Donuts
This weekend I made biscuit donuts for breakfast. The kids were in charge of shaking the donuts in powdered sugar. Unfortunately they liked the shaking more than they liked eating the donuts, so I guess we won't be making them again any time soon.

Natural History
Yesterday we braved the heat and headed downtown to the Museum of Natural History. Ian was excited to see the dinosaurs, but I think he liked the animals best.
Mia liked the butterflies.
Joe made a friend.
After lunch we walked around looking for fountains (Ian's favorite). This one is the Navy Memorial.
Capitol Reflecting Pool
Snack break on the Mall
Before heading home, we cooled off in the fountain in the sculpture garden in the Museum of Art.

4th of July
This year we celebrated July 4th at our neighborhood party. The day started with a parade, in which all the kids could decorate their bikes, strollers, wagons, and scooters and ride through the neighborhood. We decorated our wagon, and Ian made a special hat at school. (Mia had a hat too, but she tore hers before we even got it home)
The parade ended at the pool, and we cooled off with some shaved ice.
Ian and Joe took a train ride around the parking lot, but Mia wasn't impressed.
After nap time, we ended the day in typical summer fashion - on the porch with the water table.
