Natural History

Yesterday we braved the heat and headed downtown to the Museum of Natural History.  Ian was excited to see the dinosaurs, but I think he liked the animals best.


Mia liked the butterflies.




Joe made a friend.


After lunch we walked around looking for fountains (Ian's favorite). This one is the Navy Memorial.

4th of July

This year we celebrated July 4th at our neighborhood party.  The day started with a parade, in which all the kids could decorate their bikes, strollers, wagons, and scooters and ride through the neighborhood.  We decorated our wagon, and Ian made a special hat at school. (Mia had a hat too, but she tore hers before we even got it home)


The parade ended at the pool, and we cooled off with some shaved ice.


Ian and Joe took a train ride around the parking lot, but Mia wasn't impressed.


After nap time, we ended the day in typical summer fashion - on the porch with the water table.

Philadelphia

This weekend we had an adventure in Philadelphia.  We decided to take a quick trip for a change of scenery.

Ian refueled with some lunch and M&Ms before the last hour of the drive.


We visited the Please Touch Museum, Philadelphia's children's museum.  The kids tried out the trolley car.

Ian thought staying in a hotel was really fun.  Here they are having some early morning snacks, not quite awake yet.


On Sunday morning we did some touring of the museum district before heading home.  Ian liked the Logan Square fountain best.


Mia just wanted to watch, and occasionally throw in some gravel.


We climbed the famous stairs at the Museum of Art.


We made it all the way to the top!






Our last stop was the famous Love statue and fountain.  Ian didn't like the fountain, but Mia thought it was fun.




It was such a nice day we got out the water table when we got home, and Mia really enjoyed it!

Father's Day

We had a busy Father's Day full of firsts for Mia.

In the morning we went shopping at the outlets, and Mia wore barrettes for several hours without pulling them out and eating them. Her hair is really getting long so hopefully she'll let us pull it back more often.


We spent the afternoon at Grandma and Grandpa H.'s house, where Mia enjoyed her first crab feast.  Ian gobbled them up faster than Grandma could pick them, but Mia tried a few bites then went on to other things.


Some of the old Barbie toys were unearthed from the basement and the kids played with them nicely together.




They were both asleep before we got home!

May Recap

We've had a busy May!  The month started with a birthday party for two school friends.  Ian loved the bouncy slides, and Mia was quickly going down the big slide all by herself (although she still needed Daddy to help her climb to the top).




Then we entered our first 5K race.  This is me, minus 20 lbs (too bad you can't tell - yet!), wearing my first ever race bib.


Later that day Joe had to leave for a work trip to New Mexico, so the kids and I went to the toy store, where Ian picked out a Hulk mask that Mia has since claimed as her own.


The next weekend we went to the open house at the fire station, where Ian ran into his friend Jack.  They got to ride in lots of big trucks, but they liked the bounce house and cotton candy best.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Ian spent a few nights with his Grandma and Grandpa and Mia got to be the star of the playground.  What a ham.
