State Quarter Map for Dad's Christmas Gift

State Quarter map made for my father who is a coin collector. Each state has a place for a Philadelphia-minted quarter. The surround has places for the quarters from the Denver mint. Each state was individually cut using my scroll saw. The states and surround are made with maple. The frame and background is red oak. The glare is from the glass which holds the quarters in.

Trash Can

Trash can made using maple. I got a jointer and planer so this was my first project using rough cut lumber which I milled down to the required dimensions. The only metal on the whole trash can is the door pull and hinges, otherwise all mortise and tenon joinery. The drawer used for trash bag storage was hand dovetailed. The field of each side is made of 2"x1/4" slats floating in a groove on the rails and stiles. The trashcan sits inside to the left and above the drawer is room for a smaller trashcan which we use for recycling.

Box for Mom's Christmas present

Box I made for my mother for Christmas. Wood is cherry. The corners are box joints made on the table saw.

Side Table

Made this side table for my wife's birthday. I don't have a jointer so I ended up hand joining two 8" pieces to make the table top. The legs are mortise and tennoned into the skirts. The legs are tapered using the table saw. The wood is poplar but in hindsight I would have used maple.

Bamboo Platter

This is one of my first real woodworking projects. I made this as a present for my best man Andrew. I got the plans from Wood magazine. The light wood you see is bamboo, the sides are Brazilian cherry, and the dovetails are purple heart. I got the chopsticks from Zazu.
