Busy Weekend
It was a very busy weekend at the Ferner house. Joe took Friday off and we spent the day test driving cars. Ian was very well behaved during all of the test drives, and we got to make sure that the car seat fit comfortably in all of the contenders. Saturday we went to IHOP for breakfast then met with a builder to discuss options for our deck and get an estimate. It rained Saturday afternoon so we took advantage of the gross weather and stayed home for the rest of the day. Saturday afternoon was the first day Ian grinned at us often and consistently during play time. I still haven't caught one of his grins on camera, but we're working on it.
Today, the photographers from flutterphoto came by to take photos of Ian and of us as a family. The session was a gift from my wonderful PPC team and I can't wait to see how the photos turn out. We'll post them here as soon as they're ready. The session took an hour and afterwards Ian conked out immediately. Modeling is hard work!

Renaissance Festival
We spent Saturday at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and Ian loved all the new sights and sounds. He even tried out his Bjorn for the first time and did really well.
We didn't learn very much about the Renaissance, except that it involves lots of fried foods and meats-on-a-stick, arts and crafts, and jousting.
Here is Ian sleeping through the glassblowing demonstration:

2 Months Old
Ian is 2 months old today! He has really grown since his 1-month check-up. At 2 months, Ian:
* weighs 10lbs 2oz and measures 22 inches in length.
* eats 5-6 ounces 6 times a day.
* just made the transition to size 1 diapers, which are currently huge on him.
* has outgrown most of his newborn-sized clothes and now wears 0-3 and 3 month sizes.
* suddenly became a super sleeper, sleeping 8 hours at a stretch, waking once around 4am, and going right back to sleep for several more hours.
* is very active and curious, prefering to be on his back to kick his legs and look around at interesting objects. He also loves to sit upright and practice standing with help.
* almost has complete head control - a few more weeks and he'll be a pro.
Here is his 1-month picture for comparison:

Ian met his new friend Maggie today and they had a wonderful time "playing" together. Ian also got to watch Jack play, and is now conked out from the overstimulation.

This weekend we went to Joe's company picnic. Unlike most of our recent social engagements, Ian was actually awake for part of this one. Of course, his awake time was mostly spent eating and burping, with a little bit of fussing towards the end. He did really enjoy looking at the barn and the trees and all the new faces, though.
"Mom, I'm cold! Stop taking pictures and put on my PJs already."
Because Clipper gets all the photos on this blog, here's one of Teak acting like a cat and sleeping on the back of the couch.

Fall Has Arrived!
The weather has been cool the last few days, and we've used that as an excuse to get outside and have some fun. Yesterday Mommy took Ian for a long stroller ride around the neighborhood, where we saw the new playground, the lake and fountains, and lots of ducks. Ian loves to be outside and especially loves his stroller (it's got lots of interesting toys to look at). Eventually he dozed off but woke up whenever we stopped moving.
Today he got dressed up in his warm onesie and denim overalls and we went out to run some errands. He looks ready for a hayride, but got to watch Mommy drink a pumpkin spice latte and get a pedicure instead. Here he is showing off his Fall duds and trying out his Bumbo. He's still a little too floppy to sit in it for long, and he's not at all sure he likes it.
After the morning's fun and a long nap, we spent some time in the playroom. Ian loves to look out the big window at the trees, and he's recently become mesmerized by his elephant toy.
He also loves to watch the mirror and the spinning birds above his head while he swings.
Swinging time usually ends like this:
Of course, the whole time we're in the playroom, this is what we see on the other side of the gate:

We haven't been too good about taking pictures lately, but here are a few good ones from the past week.
Ian is starting to outgrow his newborn-sized clothes, and Mommy is excited to have some new outfits to try. This one is a little too big still, and the hood is kinda silly, but it sure does look cute!
After his bath, Ian got wrapped in his monkey towel and then cuddled up in his bath robe before putting on PJs.
