Cardinals Baseball

The Cardinals were in town this weekend and so was our friend Niki, so we all got dressed in our gear and headed to Nationals Park.

It was Ian's first baseball game, and he had a great time watching all the action.

He shocked us by making it to the bottom of the 8th inning before getting sleepy and fussy, and took a little snooze on the way home.

Walking and Throwing

Finally, the much-anticipated video of Ian walking! He is getting very good and can walk across a room unassisted, but once he falls down he prefers to go back to crawling instead of trying to stand up, so he still crawls quite a bit.

And we'll throw in a cute picture for good measure.

Learning Language

Ian is starting to build his vocabulary. The word he says most is 'uh oh' which he learned when he got his first balloon and accidentally lost it in our two-story foyer. Since then he's picked up a few more things. He will point at the dogs and say their names: "Bibba" is Clipper and "Teetee" is Teak. He doesn't do this often, but he can definitely tell them apart and is starting to learn their names. Just this week he's started saying ball, which sounds like "bwah." It's also What the Sheep Says and the sound he makes when he is supposed to spit something out that isn't supposed to be in his mouth in the first place.

He's hasn't attempted "Mama" yet, and I'm pretty sure I should be offended that I rank below the dogs.
Ian is learning to use a spoon, which really just means his mealtimes are much messier than before. He knows to dip the spoon in the food and put it in his mouth, but which end goes where is always the challenge. Tonight he practiced with some pudding.

After a while he decided to ditch the spoon altogether and go directly to the source.

Spaghetti Dinner

What's more fun than eating spaghetti? Feeding it to Clipper! Plus: clapping.

First Steps!

Ian took his first independent steps today! He was walking along with his push toy when all of a sudden he let go and took three steps towards his farm. He didn't even fall over when he reached the farm, he just crouched down and started playing with the animals. It was as if he didn't even realize what he'd just done.

Earlier in the day he took a step here or there when he'd let go of one object and take a step without holding anything until he was close enough to reach another object for support. Today is the first day he's done that, so hopefully we'll be seeing some progress on the walking front from now on.

The steps are very elusive and happen too quickly and unpredictably to catch on camera right now. We'll keep trying, but in the meantime here is Ian's Infant graduation photo that he got along with a certificate when he moved out of the Infant room and in with the Toddlers.
