Busy Busy Mia

Mia has been a busy girl!  A few days ago she started crawling on her hands and knees with her tummy off the floor.  She's not too fast at it yet, but that doesn't stop her from getting into trouble.

She's also been eating a lot of table foods - so much that we were able to eliminate her bottle at bedtime and she's still full enough from dinner to sleep through the night!  This week she had her first pasta dinner.

Mia's new favorite activity is standing up by herself.  She can't pull herself to a stand quite yet, although she tries very hard.

She goes for her 9-month check up on Thursday, so we'll see how much she's grown!

Zoom Zoom

Ian taught Mia how to ride in the Cozy Coupe, and was nice enough to show her how to beep the horn.  He even gave her a ride around the house, which she loved!

3 Year Check-Up

Ian had his 3 year check-up with the doctor yesterday.  It was a much more pleasant experience than the tests over the weekend, and Ian thought the paper gown was pretty hilarious.

The doctor says he looks great, and he's in the 20th percentile for both height and weight.

Rough Weekend

Poor Ian was complaining of a stomach ache all evening Saturday, and cried and cried until he finally fell asleep.  Luckily he woke up feeling fine on Sunday, but after lunch he complained again of pain in his lower left abdomen and, after he had been crying for about half an hour without stopping, we decided to get him checked out.  He also told us several times that he ate a plastic dinosaur at school, but when questioned he also said his teacher watched him eat it, so we were understandably skeptical but didn't want to take any chances.

We headed to Patient First Sunday afternoon, where Ian got several exams and a stomach x-ray.

The doctor said there's nothing to worry about (no dinosaurs appeared on the x-ray), but it does seem that Ian is overly sensitive to a dairy-heavy diet so he'll have to give up his beloved yogurt smoothies.

Ian was devastated that he didn't get to play with his friend Bud this afternoon, so to make up for it Joe turned most of the living room into a "cave" and we all took turns crawling through - even Mia!

Happy Birthday Ian!

Ian is 3 years old! He had a long weekend of celebrating, starting with cupcakes at school on Friday, presents and cake on Sunday, and a special day with Mommy and Daddy on Monday.

"G.I.O.!!!"

Cake!

His favorite gift was his plasmacar. On Monday we took it to the roller hockey court and he had a great time riding fast.

St. Louis Visit - June/July 2012

Last week we visited the Ferner family in St. Louis.  The travel there and back was messy, but we had a great time!  The weather was hot so we spent a lot of time in the pool, but we got in a few activities too.

Ian finally got to ride on the airplane.

On Sunday, July 1st we went to Busch Stadium to see the Cardinals play the Pirates.

Since it was way too hot for Fred Bird to be out and about, Ian settled for some cotton candy (he had to share with Mommy).

On Monday we went to the Magic House in the morning ...

... and played dress up in the afternoon.

Monday night Ian got to stay up late to chase fireflies, play with glow sticks, and look for frogs.  He mostly wanted to play with a flashlight and ride the tricycle.

On the way home, Mia got her own seat on the plane!

(PS - Ferner family - we didn't have our camera with us on the trip so all of these pictures came from Joe's phone.  If you have any good ones from your cameras, please send them!)

Happy (late) July 4th!

Our neighborhood held the annual fireworks on July 6th this year, so we rounded up the kids and headed to the lake to watch.  Ian had to shower and put on his PJs first so he'd be ready for bed as soon as we got home, and poor Mia was roused from sleep to join us.  We had some glow sticks to keep the kids entertained while we waited for the show to start.  Ian enjoyed the fireworks but didn't like the noise.

8 Months

Mia turned 8 months old while we were in St. Louis.  She wore her patriotic dress for her photo shoot, but didn't sit still long because she'd rather be crawling!

At 8 months, Mia:
  • weighs about 16.5 lbs and wears sizes 6-9m and 9m clothing.
  • drinks 4 6oz bottles of formula a day and eats two meals of solid foods.
  • is much more interested in feeding herself than in whatever we spoon-feed her.  So far she's tried pancakes, donuts, breads, peaches, strawberries, cantaloupe, and avocado.
  • is getting very fast at the army crawl, but still uses rolling as her fastest method of travel.
  • babbles all the time and mostly says "mama,"  although I don't think she knows what it means yet.
