Ocean City 2010

We took a long weekend to head to the beach for some fun in the sun.

The first afternoon we spent touring the boardwalk. Ian ate some ice cream and watched us play skee ball before dinner at The Dough Roller.

The second day we hit the beach early in the morning. Luckily Ian didn't like having sand in his mouth, but he did love to crawl and play.

Joe tried to teach Ian to make sand castles, but that didn't go very well.

The first day, Ian wasn't a big fan of the ocean. He liked to watch the waves, but would only go near the water if one of us was holding him. By the last day, he discovered that the ocean made puddles for splashing, and he changed his opinion.

Our hotel was very nice, and we spent one evening lounging in the hammocks by the pool.

We can't wait to go back to Ocean City again soon!

Splash!

Ian's favorite outdoor activity is splashing in his water table. This keeps him entertained for quite a while, and it keeps him cool on hot days. Unfortunately for us he also splashes like this in the bath tub.

Little Red Wagon

Ian got a wagon for his birthday from his Grandma and Grandpa Hansroth. It's been too hot to walk around the neighborhood, so Ian had to settle for a ride around the house.

Dancing

Ian got a musical birthday card from his Grandma and Grandpa Ferner, and he loves to open it and dance to the music.

Happy Birthday Ian!

Today we celebrated Ian's 1st birthday with a backyard beach party. All of his friends came over to swim and splash and slide.

Ian also enjoyed smooshing his birthday cupcake. He wasn't too sure what to think of it at first, but he got the hang of it.

Of course, his favorite part of the day was the giant balloon Mommy brought home from the grocery store.

Reston Zoo

Ian celebrated his birthday with a trip to the Reston Zoo.

It was very hot today, but we kept cool on the zoofari ride, where Ian got to meet Dr. Pepper, a watusi, up close.

We also saw a zebra but we weren't allowed to pet him (he bites.)

By the end of the ride, we were all ready for a nap and some air conditioning.

1 Year Old!

Ian is one year old today!! We selected this photo as his official birthday shot, but it was tough this time to get him to sit still long enough for a good photo.

Most of the photo shoot went something like this:

As he crosses the one-year mark, we are amazed at how much Ian has changed and what a wonderful little boy he's become. He is always happy and cheerful, loves to play and giggle at other kids, and will always return a grin. He babbles up a storm, but he still calls everything "da." He's not quite walking, but we won't be surprised if he's ready any day now. He loves to throw his toys and food (the dogs appreciate that last part very much), and is very good at putting smaller objects inside of bigger ones. He's a super eater, although he still hasn't warmed up to scrambled eggs or some fruits. He sleeps 11 hours at night, and has been waking up much later since we put blackout curtains in his room. He moved up to the next room at school, and his teachers are so pleased at how well he is adjusting. We've certainly had a wonderful year and we're excited to see how much more Ian will grow in the next year.

Balloon

Ian went to his friend Mikaela's birthday party today and he got a balloon to take home. He held on to the balloon until bed time, bouncing it around and letting it trail behind him as he crawled around to check on his usual spots (i.e., the dog food bowl and the toilet paper roll). We had to pry it from his hands for bath time, and he cried and cried. Looks like we could have skipped the birthday presents and just bought him balloons!

Happy 4th of July!

We celebrated the 4th with a trip to the Chesapeake Bay and our favorite crab house. Ian dressed in his most festive attire for the occasion.

Poor Ian had to content himself with hush puppies and fruit while the rest of the table chowed down on seafood, but afterward his patience was rewarded when he got to share Grandma's delicious raspberry ice cream cone.

Fireworks were past his bedtime, so he'll have to wait for those until next year.

Taking a Dip

Ian kicked off the holiday weekend with a little dip in the backyard pool. He was not a big fan.
